Rally Training

We occasionally teach basic rally training as part of our silver plus training class at Rangeworthy Hall on Mondays. Rally is a bit like an obedience exercise obstacle course. Dogs and handlers need to have reached silver standard under the Kennel Club Good Citizens Scheme as much of the work is done off lead.

The course is set by the judge or trainer. There is no pause between exercises – you and your dog work briskly through the course without direction from the judge. You are encouraged to talk to and praise your dog during the performance.

We don’t train to competition standards just for fun but Rally training is recognised by the Kennel Club and more information including contacts for more advanced training and competing can be found at www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/4561

Rally involves handlers and dogs working as a team to navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform such as:

  • Sit
  • Down
  • Stand
  • Left turn
  • Right Turn
  • About turn
  • Spiral Left – Dog Inside
  • Straight Figure 8
  • Send over Jump
  • Plus many many more
